Lip filler after care

Lip filler after care

Lip filler is a fantastic way to enhance your facial features. It is popular because it is quick, affordable, and relatively pain free. Your cosmetic injector will provide advice on how to achieve the fastest recovery after your procedure including the best lip lip filler after care instructions to ensure you get the best result out of your treatment. There are several things you can do to help reduce bruising, swelling and inflammation of the lip area which are unfortunately a common side effect of lip filler.

Our top six tips from Arnicare's nurses are:

Step 1: Preparation is key

Adequately preparing for lip filler by minimising strenuous exercise, anti-inflammatory medications, and planning around important events will ensure your results are maximised and your risk of complications is minimised.

Step 2: Stay hydrated

Lip filler contains hyaluronic acid which assists in plumping and hydrating the lips by drawing water into the treated cells. This can easily be achieved by drinking plenty of water and using a hydrating lip balm with arnica. Arnicare stocks a lip balm with arnica and hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture after lip filler.

Step 3: Use an ice pack

Ice applied immediately after lip filler is a great way to reduce bruising and inflammation. Leaving your ice pack on for around 15 minutes at a time will assist in vasoconstricting blood vessels which reduces circulation to the area. Our custom lip shaped ice packs can be reused and are the perfect size to apply to the lip area.

Step 4: Avoid high temperatures

It is important to avoid vigorous exercise and high temperatures associated with saunas or spas, which can increase bruising and inflammation due to a rise in blood pressure and vasodilation. This increases circulation to the area whilst also adding in an increased chance of infection associated with perspiration over the injection sites.

Step 5: Avoid anti-inflammatories and use arnica

There are a number of common medications that should be avoided after lip filler which can further increase the risk of bruising or bleeding, including anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen. Topical arnica is a great product to use after lip filler as it minimises bruising, inflammation and promotes healing. Our Arnica Healing Balm contains hyaluronic acid which is fantastic for maintaining hydration, as is maintaining hydration by drinking plenty of water. Some studies have shown that arnica performed equally as well for its anti-inflammatory effects as Ibuprofen.

Step 6: Don't miss your follow up appointment

Finally, don’t forget to attend your follow up appointment with your injector where they will review the shape of the lip, distribution of the filler and provide any additional after care instructions or filler top up that may be required.
