Lip blush aftercare

Lip blush is a great way to refresh your look and is often undertaken in conjunction with lip filler. Just like lip filler, lip blush aftercare is an important part of the process, after all you want to maximise your look and reduce downtime.
The focus of lip blush aftercare is to maintain hydration and reduce the risk of infection to ensure your lips heal and you can show off your bold (or subtle) new look without any unwanted swelling or scabbing.

Our top lip blush aftercare tips are as follows:

Keep your lips hydrated!

After lip blush, dryness and flakiness is common and very much an expected part of the healing process. You can easily keep your lips hydrated by increasing your water intake for the days before and after your procedure and avoiding excessive exercise or saunas. This will also in turn reduce swelling that can be worsened with increased blood flow to the area and reduce infection risk due to sweating. Using lip blush aftercare that contains hyaluronic acid like our arnica balm will ensure your lips are hydrated, whilst reducing swelling and bruising.

Clean your lips as directed!

Cleaning your lips after every meal (or as directed by your artist) assists in reducing the amount of “scabbing” that can occur after lip blush in addition to reducing the chance of infection. The mouth is a haven for bacteria which can edge its way onto your lips. It is important not to harshly scrub your lips, just gently blot them. This is also a great time to apply your arnica healing balm.

Reduce swelling!

Lip blush tattoo causes microtrauma to the lip area through multiple passes of the needle. The body works to heal “trauma” through mast cell activation which leads to swelling of the area. Excessive exercise can exacerbate swelling so is best avoided. Sleeping with your head raised on pillows and applying a lip ice pack are both super easy ways to reduce lip swelling cause by lip blush tattoo. Our lip ice packs are the perfect sized ice pack to apply after lip blush tattoo. They stay frozen for about 15 minutes. Keeping one in the freezer means you will always have an ice pack to apply if your lips start to feel tight or sore.
